Berges

Welcome to Berges, a country retreat with lots of modern amenities like a heated swimming pool, dishwashers and microwaves. Where you can be active or laid-back, as you like: climb the mountain—Berges is bordered by forested hillsides—or lounge in a hammock beneath massive old cherry trees. Barbecue in the summer kitchen next to the lawn, whip up a meal in a well-equipped kitchen or dine out, with choices nearby ranging from a tapas bar to Michelin-starred restaurants.

| Berges began as a mill for marble cutting and polishing in the late 19th century. A small canal brought water from the river that runs through the valley to power the machinery. We still use it today for irrigating the four acres of trees and gardens. As the market for marble evaporated in the wars and depression of the 20th century, the property became a small farm and still later a vacation retreat.

| Less than a mile from the center of Caunes-Minervois and accessible only by a private bridge across the Argent-Double river, Berges offers a sense of complete tranquility: the surrounding hills and sky above its most prominent features. The private, nearly invisible nooks one finds about the grounds augment this sense of seclusion.

| The apartments are all located above the former workshops that are now used as studios by the groups of artists who stay at Berges each year. Each of the apartments has its special character. All have well-equipped kitchens, TV sets with French channels available and all linens are furnished. All have one bathroom with a shower. A common laundry serves all of them.

Arbousier - Two bedrooms with private terrace and small barbecue grill; both bedrooms have double beds. There is a working fireplace and a dishwasher in the kitchen.

| Lavande - Two-bedrooms with private terrace and small grill; one bedroom has a king-sized bed. The other is upstairs with a double bed; additional single beds are and option. There is a dishwasher in the kitchen

Mimosa - One bedroom with double bed and a newly-remodeled kitchen and working fireplace. The sofa unfolds into a double bed.

| Eglantine - Both the bedroom and the salon of this apartment open into the kitchen; ideal for one person or a couple acustomed to a studio.
